Nantes – Cairo direct flight: the pyramids within easy reach

From 28 October 2026, Transavia offers a direct Nantes – Cairo flight every Wednesday during the winter season. No more connections through Paris or elsewhere to see the pyramids.

With one flight a week, the typical stay is seven nights. That works well: three or four days in Cairo, and the rest for a trip to Luxor or Aswan by sleeper train or domestic flight, or simply to explore without rushing.

What to see in Cairo

• The Giza pyramids and the Sphinx: the site is huge, arrive early to beat the heat and the crowds. Book a tour
• The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), at the foot of the Giza plateau: the largest archaeological museum in the world, home to Tutankhamun's treasures. GEM tickets
• Saqqara, with Djoser's step pyramid, older than Giza's and far less crowded.
• Islamic Cairo: Saladin's Citadel, the Muhammad Ali Mosque and Al-Muizz Street.
• Khan el-Khalili bazaar, to get lost in the alleys and sip mint tea at El Fishawy café.
• A felucca on the Nile at sunset.

Cairo in winter

It's the best season: days are often around 20 °C, far from the summer heat. Evenings are cool, so bring a jacket.

From the airport to the centre

Cairo traffic is heavy: allow 45 minutes to over an hour to reach downtown or Giza depending on the time of day. On a first visit, booking a transfer in advance is easier than haggling for a taxi on arrival.
